Visiting the Southport Food Pantry
Southport Food Pantry entrance is situated at The Grace Centre on Princes Street, Southport and entry is through the foyer.
Upon arrival you will be welcomed by volunteers at the main entrance who will then direct you to the reception desk. On your first visit one of the volunteers at the desk will ask for your name and your referral form from the agency. They will then go through the process with you and introduce you to the pantry manager who will then welcome you to the club and go through the club activities.
If you are happy to join the club you will then be asked to pay a membership of £5 in cash or you can make an advanced payment on the day and the extra money will be held on your account. Please note that payment is to be paid on a weekly basis i.e. each time you visit the pantry. On your first visit you will be issued with reusable bags for you to pack food in and bring with you on your future visits.
On each visit you will be issued with a ticket, with a number on it for you to wait your turn. On busy days the ticket will be used to place you in a queuing system. You will then need to check in your name and ticket number at the counter (in the cafe area) and wait to be served. We use the ticketing system due to our pantry (the shop) being small and therefore can only accommodate a few members at a time.
Whilst waiting for a volunteer to accompany you on your shopping experience, you are invited to have free tea, coffee and wrapped biscuits. The cafe area is warm and welcoming with newspapers, small selection of toys for children and draughts and dominoes.
When your turn to shop comes a volunteer will take you into the shop area, where they will explain and accompany you as you choose your own products according to the colour coding system used by the Southport Food Pantry.
During shopping your bags will be packed for you and any help or advice given on choosing your products that you may require. Once shopping has taken place you are most welcome to enjoy the environment of the cafe area to chat and relax. This is on a weekly basis, being reviewed by referral agents on a six month basis.
